Different genes give this look: some horses are chestnuts with a flaxen mane, others are blacks or bays lightened by the silver gene.
Unlike a palomino, the body is dark rather than golden. Unlike a liver chestnut, the mane and tail are light.
Haflingers are always chestnut with a flaxen mane.
