Wooden jump stands
A practical guide to choosing, using and storing this type of hobby horse obstacle. Individual products differ; this is not a competition standard.
How they work
Two stands support a removable pole. Base width, weight and pole supports matter more than the word wooden: similar-looking sets can have different stability. Check the actual height range and adjustment steps of each model.
When to choose them
Consider these for a regular practice area where the whole set need not be moved daily. In a small room, measure the footprint and space to approach and land, not just pole length.
Strengths and limitations
Wooden stands combine well with other obstacles. Paint does not automatically make a set suitable for permanent outdoor storage: follow the maker’s instructions. A dismantlable design is easier to transport; a fixed design needs more space.
Checking and storing
Inspect the wood, joints and pole cups before use. Splinters, cracks, loose joints and protruding screws need attention. Clean and dry the set after use on damp ground, and store poles clear of walkways.
