Plastic blocks and cavaletti
A practical guide to choosing, using and storing this type of hobby horse obstacle. Individual products differ; this is not a competition standard.
Blocks and cavaletti are not identical
Cavaletti describes a low pole obstacle, not a material. It can be wooden or plastic. Blocks act as supports; available positions and stacking depend on their design. Do not assume that any stack of blocks is an approved jump.
Useful applications
Low supports are useful for marking a route and practising rhythm. Indoors, consider grip and footprint; outdoors, check the surface and wind stability. Equipment for real horses is not automatically the right size for children using hobby horses.
What to compare
Check minimum height, spacing between positions, compatible pole diameter and the included parts. A photo may show several blocks even when only one support is sold. Check whether the pole is removable and how its support works.
Care and limitations
Plastic does not rust, but can crack on impact or become brittle over time. Do not use a block with a cracked pole slot. Avoid improvised ballast or extra tiers unless the product instructions allow them.
